Famous places to visit near Chamonix
If you are looking to explore, we recommend that you visit the Aiguille du Midi massif, which can be accessed by cable car from Chamonix. The journey to the top offers stunning views of the French Alps and it is the closest you can get to the summit of Mont-Blanc without having to hike or climb. If you go on a clear day you will be able to see both the Matterhorn and Mont Maudit.
Another destination worth visiting is the famous, Mer de Glace or “sea of ice”; a 7.5km long ancient glacier that is sure to take your breath away. Many have described the glacier as one of the most stunning natural sites in the whole world. And if you’re looking to get a bit closer, you can head into the “Ice cave” and see the heart of the glacier up close.
